What strategies can I use in my Classroom?
- Seat the student close to the teacher, to enable the teacher to check they have understood the task.
- Constant reminders, memory prompts, repetition and over-learning
- Do not make comparisons with peers
- Work is likely to be inconsistent and erratic - acknowledge this
- Do not ask a student to read out in class, unless they request to.
- Judge ability /understanding by oral responses not written work.
- Teach dictionary skills.
- Give spellings in families, irregular spellings can be confusing.
- Students to repeart back instructions and messages.
- Worksheets need to be clear, uncluttered and have picture clues if possible.
- Whiteboard backgrounds changed to pastel colours to avoid th glare from white background.
- Mnemonics to aid spelling
- Study skills taught

- Hang on ceiling stimuli for suffixes eg tall, tallest, taller
- Colour code books/ areas in the classroom
