Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Description

  • Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a group of inherited disorders marked by extremely loose joints, hyperelastic skin that bruises easily, and easily damaged blood vessels.
  • There are 6 main types and 5 minor types of EDS.
  • Gene mutations cause problems with collagen. Collagen is the material that provides strength & structure to skin, bone, blood vessels, and internal organs.
  • Family history can increase risk.
  • Some forms of this condition can cause rupture of internal organs/ abnormal heart valves.
