What are the educational implications for students who have Elhers- Danlos syndome?

  • Minimise the risk of injury.
  • Joints and skin can be easily damaged.
  • Care needs to be given during gross motor activities.
  • Report any injuries immediately as injuries are often difficult to heal.
  • Pupils can look fit and well, care needs to be given to ensure pain relief is availble when required.
  • Fine motor tasks / handwriting can be tiring and cause pain - consider increased access to ICT.
  • Attendance can be effected - provide a means for the pupil to catch up easily.
  • Avoid carrying heavy bag of school books - provide lockers around school and second set of books available for home.
