The ability to be able to look at a collection of dots and name how many is a key skill that underpins many other more complex skills.

This set is designed to be printed out and cut into cards.

Select dot cards 1- 5 and shuffle, turn one over at a time and ask the Student to say how many? Ask them to look and guess, try to discourage them from looking at each dot individually or touching each dot to count.

Once the student can do this consistently for 3 occasions increase to 6 dots and then once this can be recognised consistently for 3 occasions add in 7 etc.

At the end of each session (should only take 2-3 mins) lay out number cards 1-10 and then ask the student to take each dot card and match.

Time how long this takes and try to encourage the student to beat their own score each time.

Complete the recording form.

When the Student can complete all dot cards ->20, then repeat from early stages but using counters/ pennies/ sweets by dropping them randomly on the table working until the Student can recognise random groups up to 10.
